A Tug of War competition featuring teams made up of the legendary Gurkhas took place on Friday (July 21).
The annual event, organised by G4S Gurkha Services (G4S), in aid of the Gurkha Welfare Trus took place in the grounds of Manor Park.
For the first time in many years the competition was won by a non-Gurkha team called The Regional Tuggers who were comprised of management staff.
The Gurkha Welfare Trust provide a variety of aid to alleviate hardship and distress among Gurkha ex-servicemen after they have returned to their homeland of Nepal.
Noah Price, operations director at G4S Gurkha Services, said: “This year’s G4S Gurkha Services tug of war in aid of the Gurkha Welfare Trust was the best yet.
"We had a crowd of some 300 local people cheering the eight teams from across G4S on.
"The Gurkha curry, known as baht, cooked for us by a British Army field kitchen went down very well, the sun shone and we raised over £1,000 for a very deserving cause."
Gurkhas are best known for their bravery and strength in the Indian Army's Gurkha regiments and the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas.
