Residents are invited to meet the team who keep crime and anti-social behaviour off Croydon's transport.

The Croydon Safer Travel team are holding an open day on August 4, as part of a new initiative from the newly-formed Travel Watch group.

The group, a partnership between the British Transport Police, the Metropolitan Police, Southern Rail, Tramlink, Croydon Council and Transport for London, aims at finding joint ways of making Croydon's transport even safer.

Activities and events will take place from 10am - 4pm at the Croydon Visitor Centre and from 2pm-4pm at East Croydon Station.

Visitors will be able to talk to tram officers and neighbourhood teams about any concerns they have about using public transport.

The Met Police mascot, PCSO Steve, will drop in to entertain children and there will also be free face painting.

Free ChildSafe wristbands will be on offer to parents and guardians as part of another BID initiative to ensure child safety in the Town Centre.

Travel Watch has been set up by Croydon's Business Improvement District (Croydon BID). The company represents and is funded by businesses in the town centre.

Nick Baker, London Tramlink's head of operations and contracts, as well as Travel Watch's chairman, said: "Passenger safety is our top priority and we hope that as many people as possible will come along to the Open Day to find out about what Travel Watch does and how they can contribute to continuing to reduce crime on our public transport."
