A group of travellers who set up camp on Streatham Common yesterday have been moved on by police and council officers.

Jo Cleary, executive director of adults' and community services for Lambeth Council, confirmed they were the same group who parked their vehicles on the common earlier this month.

The group had told council officers they needed to stay on the site until Monday because their family members had appointments at a nearby hospital. But a spokesman for the council said the group were told they must leave by 9pm yesterday. Council staff then cleared up rubbish bags that were left behind.
