Surrey Police is appealing for witnessses and information following a sexual assault in Worcester Park on Monday (July 24).

A man, possibly a South African, is alleged to have indecently touched the young woman at a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Kingston Road (A240) and Worcester Park Road at around 5.30pm on Monday (July 25).

As the 23-year-old victim went to cross the road at the junction she felt someone touch her inappropriately.

She turned around to see a man, standing right next to her, who moved closer and started whispering comments of an inapporpriate and sexual nature in her ear.

Detective Constable Kerry Whindle, investigating the incident, said: “This was an upsetting experience for this young woman and we are keen to identify the perpetrator.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at this time and recalls seeing a man matching this description to get in touch.

“Similarly, I would urge the man himself to come forward. He may not have realised the seriousness of his actions and the effect they would have on the victim and it will count in his favour if he comes forward of his own accord.”

The victim described the man, who was thought to be in his late 20s to early 30s, as being white and standing between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 7ins tall with short, mousey brown hair.

He was wearing a light-coloured long sleeved shirt, smart trousers and a tie - he also spoke with a distinctive accent which the victim believed could be South African.
