Plans to highlight crimes indirectly funded by drug users have gained backing from the acting Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
Steve O’Connell, MPA Member and London Assembly Member for Croydon and Sutton, put forward the plans for the new anti-drugs campaign.
And at a meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority yesterday, Acting Met Commissioner, Tim Godwin said the calls were a “good idea” he was happy to support.
Mr O’Connell said: ““People need to realise drug use is not a casual lifestyle choice, but a decision to be involved in a highly illegal and very cruel and horrific activity.
“I think a campaign, which highlights these kinds of facts and shocks people into new ways of thinking - similar to the drink driving campaign, could really make a difference.
“I think many people have no idea that when they buy cannabis they could be supporting child and, also, sex slavery. If they did, I think many people would think twice before using drugs or boasting about it.”
