An aerial theatre company defied gravity using a wooden mechanical treadmill contraption in a restored walled garden.

Acrobats from Ockham’s Razor Theatre Company performed their circus skills to crowds in the Medicine Garden in Cobham on Saturday, July 23.

Their inspiration, medieval philosopher William of Ockham, was believed to have been born in about 1287 in nearby Ockham, a few miles away from Cobham.

He came up with the concept of preferring a theory which has the fewest assumptions, shaving away unnecessary elements.

Paul Studholme has been rejuvenating the Medicine Garden since he discovered it lying derelict in 2006.

He said: “It was fantastic. It was exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for to bring arts and entertainment into the area which is fairly lacking at the moment.”

An end of summer party will be held in the garden on September 18 if M25 roadworks do not close Downside Bridge Road.
