Light a beacon to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee next year.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Sarah Goad, has encouraged Elmbridge residents to build and light beacons across the borough.
A total of 2,012 beacons are expected to light up the Cmmonwealth as part of the programme to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
Beacons were used in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee, then in 1977 and 2002 to celebrate the Queen's silver and golden jubilees.
Lord-Lt Goad said: “Lighting beacons has been a way of showing unity across our towns and villages for generations.
“This is a fantastic way of celebrating the Queen’s diamond jubilee and I really look forward to seeing volunteers and communities across Surrey leading these celebrations.”
