A Carshalton solicitor is being hunted down as part of a national fraud crackdown by charity Crimestoppers after allegedly conning mortgage lenders and banks of £12m.
Ajayi Seun, whose last known address was in South Rise, Carshalton, is one of the ten most sought after fraudsters in the UK, who between them are believed to be responsible for more than £200m worth of fraud.
Mr Seun is understood to have committed the offences between 2004 and 2009, and he failed to report for bail after being charged with conspiracy to money launder so police are keen to trace him.
The 45-year-old has not been seen at his Carshalton address since May but is known to have been running his dodgy operation out of parts of Suffolk.
The Crimestoppers national campaign has been launched following reports earlier this year that fraud cost the UK an estimated £38 billion in 2010.
Lord Ashcroft, KCMG, founder and chair of Crimestoppers, put this enormous level of fraud into an alarming context.
He said: “This is not a victimless crime. Every single one of us is paying higher taxes, bank charges and insurance fees because of fraud.
“The amount of fraud against the public purse is around £27 billion a year. This is equivalent to 30 per cent of the estimated national education budget for 2011/2012.
"Think of the many cuts and savings that would not have to occur if we did not suffer this level of fraud."
If you know the whereabouts of Seun, or of anyone committing fraud, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or to visit crimestoppers-uk.org.
