The man who died after swimming in the Thames on Saturday evening has been named as Laurence Newman.
It is believed Mr Newman, 45, was a property developer from Surbiton.
Mr Newman swam into the Thames from near the Gazebo pub by Kingston Bridge at about 7.50pm on Saturday, July 30.
A huge rescue effort began when he disappeared under the water, but despite extensive resusciation efforts he died the following day.
West London Coroners opened and adjourned an inquest into his death today, following a post mortem at Kingston Hospital yesterday.
They gave immersion as the provisional cause of death, although the results of toxicology tests are being awaited.
