Crime-fighting projects are set for a funding boost courtesy of a new Surrey Police scheme.
Police can recover assets confiscated from criminals under the Proceed of Crime Act (Poca), and these funds can now be put back into the community.
All Surrey-based organisations that help reduce crime, the fear of crime or combat antisocial behaviour can apply.
A Poca panel will sit twice a year to consider funding bids from the projects, awarding grants between £300 and £5,000 to successful applicants.
Detective Inspector Jo Hayes said: “The new Poca funding scheme is taking the cash out of crime and giving it back to local communities.
“We are looking for applications to fund initiatives affecting community groups of more than 20 people that will make a difference to crime reduction, community safety and/or the community’s fear of crime.
“Applications from projects concerned with tackling antisocial behaviour, drugs and alcohol-related crime and promoting a sense of confidence and satisfaction within the local community are particularly welcome.”
The closing date for the first round of applications is September 16. Visit surrey.police.uk/ for an application form.
