Buskers from around the world will be celebrated during a night of amazing acts, original short films and special guests.
Staff at The Bedford, in Balham, are busy preparing for The Busking Project’s only British fundraising event, which will be held at the Bedford Hill venue on Sunday, August 14.
The Busking Project is bringing some of London’s finest street performers together on stage for the first time, with the evening being hosted by singer/songwriter Tony Moore.
The Busking Project has filmed in 40 cities in 30 countries over a 10 month period. It aims to be the first documentary to examine the tough, gritty and politically charged world of street performance on a global scale.
The team behind it have lived in the homes of artists they met along the way, filming more than 100 unique acts, including snake charmers in Marrakech, children dancing in the slums of Jaipur, a handless sculptor in Hong Kong, the man with the world’s highest pain tolerance in Copenhagen, and a Techno Granny in Rome.
Director Nick Broad said: "My first love was Chen Cong, the sublime violinist who often delights audiences under Carnegie Hall to the point of tears, and had escaped near-destitution under Chairman Mao’s cultural revolution in China.
"My next, Acapella Soul, Brooklyn born singers who found a living doing what they love, singing to hundreds of thousands of people outside the MET over the decades.
"Theirs were just two stories. I wanted to know more.
"These performers and more make up an inescapable part of the urban landscape. And yet there has never been a cohesive, comprehensive chronicle of that world. I decided it was time to make one."
