Firefighters tackled a shed blaze in the early hours of this morning.
Fire crews from Purley and Wallington were called to an address in Smitham Bottom Lane, Purley at 2.26am.
A firefighter said the blaze, believed to have started because of faulty wiring on a fridge freezer, was soon brought under control but was "well alight" by the time they had arrived.
He said: "It was a wooden shed by the side of the house. Luckily it hadn't spread and caught fires to trees, but the house was less than a metre away.
"Had the house caught alight it would have been much more serious."
