Opinions on a new care home for the elderly in New Malden are being encouraged by developers who are exhibiting their plans in a pub next Saturday afternoon.

Signature Senior Lifestyle, which provides care accommodation for frail, elderly people will unveil the plans for the home in Coombe Lane West at a public exhibition on Saturday, August 13.

The plans will be exhibited at The Royal Oak pub in New Malden between 10am and 4pm.

The home is said to provide care for 90 residents, including a specialist dementia care unit, activity rooms, sun terraces, a licensed bistro and dining rooms, cinema, a hair salon and health and spa rooms.

The provider, who claims there is an urgent need for care accommodation across Kingston, said the home will bring 90 jobs to the area in a range of roles.

An independent report by an appraisal and valuation service, Pinders, shows a shortfall of 928 en-suite bed spaces, equivalent to 19 care homes, within a three mile radius of the proposed site.

The report suggests by 2020 the shortfall will to rise to 1,071 bed spaces, equivalent to 21 homes.

Dave Roe, development and planning manager at Signature, said: "Each of our homes is designed to respond to the character of the local area, and our proposals will help to address the shortage of accommodation for frail, elderly people and those with dementia.

"We are committed to working with the local community on our plans and we hope to see as many people as possible at our exhibition."

Signature is hoping to submit its planning application for the new care home to Kingston Council this autumn.
