New Addington is to benefit from a dispersal order aiming to prevent anti-social behaviour in the area.

The order, set up by the Safer Croydon Partnership starts on August 10 and will run until February 9 next year.

In the last two weeks two other orders have been launched in Upper Norwood and South Norwood and the Croydon town centre order was launched last week.

Dispersal orders give the police extra powers, and helps prevent individuals and groups from causing a disturbance.

The orders apply to all ages and police are permitted to return those under 16 back to their home if they are acting anti-socially or are at risk of becoming a victim.

The area is set to benefit from the refurbishment of Hares Bank play area for the under 10s. The work was delayed until September because of anti-social behaviour.

Residents have been encouraged to get involved by giving input and feedback to the police and ward councillors.

Leaflets offering advice on how to deal with anti-social behaviour have been handed out, encouraging residents to report their problems.

New Addington could also soon benefit from a new gym/boxing facility, with businesses being asked their views on a planning application for a new sports facility as Addington Business Centre.

Sergeant Paul Potter from the New Addington Safer Neighbourhood team said: “We are determined to ensure that those causing anti-social behaviour understand their behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.”
