A driver was left shaken with a costly repair bill when a classic car he had owned two weeks caught fire.
Firefighters were called to Aldi car park on August 4 after the man’s Hillman Imp started bellowing smoke from the engine in the boot.
The fire was out by the time Walton fire crew got there, but they doused it with water to reduce the temperature.
Walton’s crew manager Iain Pompei said: “He’d had the car literally two weeks. I was chatting to him, and he was quite shaken. I think he thought it was going to explode, but he stopped and turned the engine off, and that saved the car.”
