Not many people like being in pain but Crystal Palace loan signing Peter Ramage was delighted to have an aching body on Saturday night.
The 27-year-old made his Eagles debut earlier in the day, after signing on a month's loan from Queens Park Rangers on Friday, as Palace opened their Championship campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Peterborough United.
It was the first time right-back Ramage had completed 90 minutes since April 24, 2010, having suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury at the start of last season that reduced him to four substitute appearances as QPR got promoted to the Premiership.
"It was great to get a game," he said.
"It has been a whole season since I have had 90 minutes like that so it was good.
"The result was disappointing but from a personal point of view it was great to play a whole game and I enjoyed it.
"I enjoyed the feeling of being battered and bruised after."
Ramage was not the only new face in a Palace defence that included three loanees at London Road, where Sean Scannell gave the Eagles the lead before second-half goals from Grant McCann and David Ball secured victory for Peterborough.
Ryan McGivern and Andrew Davies, both of which signed month loan deals on Wednesday, also started while Aleksandar Tunchev, signed for a month on Friday, was on the bench.
"We were thrown together on Friday morning a little bit," said Ramage.
"That was our only training session and then we were thrown into the Lion's Den.
"We need a bit of time to get used to the lads but we had a good training session on Monday.
"I am enjoying it here and Clint Hill and Sean Derry told me how good a club it was.
"But, without being selfish, I have come to get games for a month and then I am going to go back to QPR and try and get in the team there.
"I spoke to the manager Neil Warnock at QPR and he outlined the plans for me and wanted me to get a month's worth of matches and games under my belt.
"He said it was going to be difficult for me to get in the QPR team having missed last season but he said he will reassess the situation when I get back."
Ramage was due to play in the first round Carling Cup tie with Crawley Town on Tuesday night before the game was postponed and rearranged for August 23 following the riots in Croydon on Monday.
It means he will now make his home debut against Burnley on Saturday, a fixture that was given the green light to go ahead by the Football League this afternoon.
"I was looking forward to the game on Tuesday," said Ramage.
"Of course it was the right decision to call it off though.
"I was staying not far from the trouble and all I could hear was sirens all over the place, I could see something was going on.
"But at least we could have an extra training session yesterday to get a bit more time to gel and hopefully we can get off the mark and get three points on the board against Burnley."
