Council chiefs have insisted they will not follow in the footsteps of a neighbouring council by evicting the families of convicted looters from their homes.
Leader of Lambeth Council Councillor Steve Reed said last week that only those guilty of violent disorder would risk losing their homes, adding: "We should punish the guilty and not the innocent."
He said any decision to terminate a tenant’s contract because of criminal or antisocial behaviour would be taken in line with normal council guidelines.
The announcement comes after Wandsworth Council began eviction proceedings against resident Maite de Calve – whose son Daniel Sartain-Clarke, 18, was alleged to have taken part in riots in Clapham Junction.
Almost 3,000 people have signed an online petition against Wandsworth Council’s action.
