A Lambeth police officer has been praised for her "exceptional courage" after she tried to break up a fight between two rival gangs at a south London hospital during last month's riots.
PC Laura Travers was working with a gang member who had been stabbed in the arm, when a rival gang member began arming himself and threatened to attack him.
Without waiting for back up, PC Travers threw herself between the rival gangs.
Three people were later detained by police. Chief Inspector Sian Edwards, of Lambeth police, said: "I am immensely proud of the bravery and professionalism of all Lambeth officers and staff during the disturbances.
"PC Laura Travers demonstrated exceptional courage to intervene between fighting gang members to protect hospital staff and members of the public, knowing there would be a delay in units responding to her call for assistance."
