Kingston’s representative on the UK’s Youth Parliament will join his colleagues in the House of Commons chamber to debate five issues of key importance to young people.

Members of the UK Youth Parliament will debate public transport, child poverty, the environment and bullying, at the event on November 4.

They will also debate bringing in a graduate tax as an alternative to tuition fees when they step into the chamber usually filled by David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Milliband.

Rhammel Afflick, 17, Kingston’s representative on the UK Youth Parliament, said: “It is important because it is going to decide what issues we’ll be campaigning on next year based on the young people that voted.

“I think unlike most boroughs, Kingston does get a say because we have strong links with the youth council and some of the decision-makers in Kingston.”

The Chessington Community College (CCC) student said one of the issues voted for debate by the 65,000 voters across the UK was public transport.

He said that overcrowding on the 71 bus with CCC, Southborough and Tolworth students, was currently being taken to Transport for London on behalf of the youth council.
