A charity building a new home for adults with learning disabilities has received another boost as it races to raise the final £300,000.
Fircroft Trust is on track to officially open Firs Court in Hook on April 19 next year but has created a John Lewis wedding style list to help kit out the building with beds, cutlery and other household items.
It is also calling on people who have pledged money over the past two years to come forward.
The latest donor, Chris Holcomb of the Kingston branch of the Chelsea Building Society, handed over £1,000.
When the new building is opened next year it will be another huge improvement in the lives of people with learning disabilities.
In the 1960s people with Down’s Syndrome were largely ignored and uncared for by society.
Parents pulled together and raised £120,000 to buy Maple Lodge, in Southborough Road, Surbiton, in the 1980s.
But the ageing home with staircases and shared rooms became unsuitable as its residents got older.
Fircroft Trust will hold its AGM on November 8.
