A promising psychology student died after being crushed in a nightclub stampede.

Laurene-Danielle Jackson, 19, had started her second year at Kingston University when she visited Northampton for the Wickedest Wickedest event at the Lava & Ignite nightclub.

Witnesses said the crush happened when an announcement that coaches were about to leave was made and then a fire alarm began at about 3.30am on Wednesday, October 19. Miss Jackson was taken to hospital after the crush and died on Sunday, November 6.

Another clubber, Nabila Nanfuka from Neasden, died on the day of the stampede. Bridget Tower, director of studies at Kingston University’s department of criminology and sociology, described the loss of Miss Jackson, also known as Tiffany, as a huge shock.

She said: “In the short time that Tiffany was with us, she certainly taught us fresh ways of looking at familiar things and encouraged us to ask new and important questions.

“We will miss her very much and are saddened that her academic career has been cut so short. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Tiffany’s family and everyone who knew her.”

Northampton councillors suspended the club’s licence two days after the tragedy, and it is not expected to re-open after owner Luminar, which also runs Oceana in Kingston, went into administration.

The independent police complaints commission said it was investigating the actions of the police on the night, and probing what they knew about the event in the days before the tragedy.

An inquest into the Wembley resident’s death was due to be held this week.

Witnesses should call 03000 111 222, reference Operation Seahorse, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
