An Olympic hopeful has taken time out of her day job to open her employer’s London 2012 shop.

Middle distance runner Gemma Turtle, who works part time in the menswear department at John Lewis, Kingston, cut the ribbon to open the 1,000 square foot shop on Tuesday, November 15.

The athlete is sponsored by John Lewis’s Partners in Sport scheme, which offers support to John Lewis partners who are hoping to compete in next year’s Olympics.

The Thames-side store will have a ring-side seat when the Olympic flame is carried down the Thames before the opening ceremony, and will twice see world-class athletes cycle under it on the opening weekend.

The first-floor shop will offer more than 600 official London 2012 products, ranging from £1.95 sticker sets to a £549 camcorder.
