Police will roll out Operation 10 pin to Kingston town centre in a one-day crackdown on drugs, vehicle crime, speeding and parking problems near schools.

The multi-agency action day, scheduled for the new year, will follow an increase in officers on the street over the festive period to tackle shoplifting, pickpocketing and other Christmas crimes.

Chief Inspector Bill Heasman said: “There has and continues to be a considerable amount of police activity within Grove ward by our town centre team, our safer transport team and our safer neighbourhood team.

“Several operations have run recently designed to increase the police presence at key times of activity balancing the needs of both the day and night time economies.”

He said the police have also worked with Kingston University to provide a free bus service to help student clubbers get home safely and quickly, and give crime prevention advice to new students.
