Police are investigating after a man tried to abduct two girls as they walked to school.

The first incident took place on Becmead Avenue, at the junction with Garrad's Road, Streatham, on Tuesday, November 15.

A 12-year old girl was walking to school shortly after 8.30am when she saw a white van with a black roof rack driving slowly alongside her.

The driver spoke to the girl and encouraged her to come over to him, but she ignored him and ran away.

In a second incident on Wednesday, November 16, an 11-year-old girl was walking along Becmead Avenue at about 8.00am and was approached by a similar vehicle at the junction with Ockley Road.

But when the driver tried to get her attention, the girl began making a phone call and he drove away.

No arrests have been made but Lambeth Police have increased patrols in the area.

They are looking for a slim white man, aged between 20 and 30, with short black hair and dark stubble. He wore navy tracksuit bottoms with white stripes and spoke with a London accent.

In the second incident he was described as wearing a grey hooded top with his hood up.

Anyone with information should call Detective Inspector Barry Smith at Lambeth CID on 020 8649 2062 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
