Former Blue Peter presenter Anthea Turner will turn on Claygate’s Christmas lights, but there will not be a snow flake in sight.

Cadbury’s Snow Flake that is, for children at the event will no doubt be crossing their fingers for some real snow at the annual event.

The TV personality is set to turn the lights on in Claygate’s parade at 4.40pm on Saturday, November 26, but festivities will take place between 4pm and 5.30pm.

This year’s squeaky clean celebrity choice is in stark contrast to last year when Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood rocked up to Claygate’s Christmas event.

Caroline Cartwright, of Claygate Village Association, said: “This is very much a family event with Claygate residents turning out to enjoy the festivities in the Parade.”

There will be musical entertainment on and off stage with carols from Rowan Preparatory and Claygate Primary schools.

For the children there will be roundabouts, stalls, face painting, and a Santa’s grotto, while adults can enjoy a spot of late night shopping and a glass of mulled wine.

The event and lights themselves are organised by the Claygate Village Association with help from 1st Claygate scouts and volunteers.

Funding is provided by local businesses, organisations, traders and residents.
