A Girl Guide from Cheam was interviewed live by the BBC at the Lord Mayor’s show last Saturday.

Charlotte, 11, told Clare Balding from the BBC how much fun she has as a Guide, going camping and making new friends.

Around 80 girls and leaders from all over the county of Greater London West dressed smartly and looked proud as they represented Girlguiding to the world.

The girls submitted suggestions for the float design and an international theme of: “10 million girls around the world” was selected so as to represent the worldwide membership of Guiding.

In order for all 6000 girls and leaders in the county of Greater London West to take part, they sent in paper cut outs of their hands which were transformed into a giant peace dove.

Loud music and bubbles streamed from the float and the girls performed routines with pom-poms and waved to the estimated 400,000 people lining the streets.

The girls enjoyed their day and several echoed the same response: “An amazing day; we’ll remember it forever.”

Girlguiding UK is the UK’s largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women, with around 530,000 members and recognised volunteers.
