A man who looted thousands of pounds worth of designer glasses has been jailed for 20 months.
Ahmed Ebrahimi forced entry into the Boots opticians in London Road, Croydon on the night of August 8.
Once inside, the 24-year-old ransacked the store, smashing display cabinets as he ran off with a large quantity of glasses and sun glasses worth £87,733.
Ebrahimi, of West Drayton, Middlesex, was identified as being involved in the looting when his DNA was found inside the store.
Officers carried out extensive inquiries to locate him and realising that police were on to him, Ebrahimi went in to South Norwood police station on September 27 and handed himself in.
Ebrahimi admitted going into the store, claiming he was drunk at the time and that he didn’t steal anything.
At Inner London Crown Court on November 9 he was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment after being found guilty of burglary.
Detective Sergeant Darren Lovatt, who is part of the dedicated Incident Room investigating the disorder in Croydon said: “Despite being linked forensically to the scene of the crime, Ebrahimi tried to deny being involved in the looting at Boots. He was bang to rights and thankfully the courts saw through his lies.”
