They may not attract the vast sums of a Damien Hirst sculpture or Van Gogh portrait, but pupils at a Mitcham primary school have taken to selling artwork to raise funds for classroom supplies.

Children from nursery to Year 6 at St Thomas of Canterbury RC school produced their pictures using a range of media and materials, which have been bought by parents with money going towards new equipment.

Rachael Webb-Oliver, Art Subject Leader at the school in Commonside East, said their two-week art exhibition showed off work which reflected the curriculum.

She said: "Many of the parents took delight in being able to appreciate and purchase their children's artwork to make a special family keepsake.

"The money raised will be going towards buying more art equipment for the children to continue their wonderful creative endeavours."
