Sixth form students got the scoop from a Westminster insider when she visited their school.
Baroness Hollins talked to students at Raynes Park Sixth Form as part of a project to help young people engage with politics.
She answered questions and spoke about the House of Lords, where she was made a crossbench peer last October.
Ange Levesque, the school’s sixth form director, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”
The visit, earlier this month, was part of the Peers in Schools initiative, which aims to teach students about the political process.
