The festive feeling is spreading in Kingston with the traditional Christmas Market in full swing.

Traders have returned to the Ancient Market Place for the seventh year running and visitors have been buying cosy stockings, gingerbread houses and much more.

The market opened on Friday, November 11 and will be open every day from 10am to 8pm until Wednesday, December 28.

Meanwhile, Christmas is starting early in New Malden with festive lights, free parking and winter bargains.

Shoppers can park for free for up to four hours in Blagdon Road multi-storey car park in a bid to boost trade in New Malden and remind residents of the variety available on their doorsteps.

Shops and businesses will also be offering discounts and offers as part of the scheme, which is being organised by the Maldens and Coombe Neighbourhood Committee.

Chairman, Councillor Ken Smith said: “It is important that we as a council support our local shopping areas and maintain these as facilities for the local community.

“They especially need our support in the current economic environment and I am particularly pleased as Chair of the Neighbourhood that we have been able to put this scheme in place here.”

The scheme will run from Friday, November 25, when the Christmas lights will be switched on, then every Saturday until Christmas Eve.

The Christmas light switch on itself will take place at 5.30pm with a festive parade along the High Street, organised by the Malden Fortnight Committee.
