A lucky 13-year-old boy miraculously avoided serious injury after an horrific road smash with a stolen van.

A red Mitsubishi pickup truck, stolen from Epsom Golf Club just hours earlier, ploughed into a blue Peugeot hatchback which was carrying the youngster.

The smash happened in Limpsfield Road, Warlingham, at about at 8.30pm on November 15.

The callous driver of the Mitsubishi fled immediately after the crash despite a child being in the other car - he has yet to be tracked down.

Both vehicles were completely written-off during the crash but the Mitsubishi is being examined for forensic evidence to help trace the driver.

The driver of the Peugeot and the 13-year-old boy were treated at the scene by paramedics but were not serious enough to be taken to hospital.

Limpsfield Road was closed for two hours due to an oil spill resulting from the collision.

The stolen truck, believed to have been taken between 5pm and 8pm on November 15, was described as the ‘work horse’ of Epsom Golf Club. Bob Heath, chairman of house at the golf club, said: “It was taken from our yard were we park all the vehicles and they obviously just hotwired it.

“It was a flat bed truck which we use across the golf club for everything. It’s our workhorse. It’s been left completely wrecked.”

Lost without the use of the truck, Toyota has since come forward to help the club offering them a new van at a discounted rate.

Mr Heath said: “They are going to help use out with a new vehicle. We are going to purchase a new van as they have done a very good deal for us.”
