Surrey Police has pledged to do everything possible to maintain public confidence during a planned mass walk-out throughout the public sector.

Plans are in place to ensure that critical policing services such as 999 and response to serious crimes are maintained throughout the county.

However, the force is facing difficulty because police staff could be involved in the industrial action on November 30, while public services participating in the strike may place extra demand on the force.

To help the force manage demand and prioritise services, the public has been asked to only call 999 in an emergency, where life is endangered or a serious offence is in progress.

Other matters can be reported online, or via the 101 non-emergency number.

Police counter services will also be open in Guildford, Woking, Staines and Reigate.
