Young Elmbridge writers were rewarded for their literary promise at a prize giving ceremony.

Claygate-based children’s author Samantha Mackintosh presented the prizes at Riverhouse Barn, in Walton, and offered advice to the aspiring authors.

The annual literary competition, now in its seventh consecutive year, was organised by the R C Sherriff Trust in partnership with Elmbridge Council.

Winners included Toby Hubbard, eight, Alfred Harper, nine, Eleanor McChesney, 12, and Alice van den Bosch, 18.

First prize for the adults was shared between Sandra Curtin and Terry Ryan.

Councillor Jan Fuller said: “This year’s theme, breaking the barrier, clearly captivated the heart and imagination of young writers and the result is an incredible display of talent that shines through uplifting, moving and entertaining stories and poems.

“Congratulations to the winners and to all the participants who submitted entries.”
