Inmates of Highdown prison have created a selection of special prison-made Christmas gifts.

Under the direction of chef Alberto Crisci, 22 prisoners who work in the Clink Restaurant have created a collection of edible presents.

The Clink Restaurant is the first commercial restaurant to be built inside a working British prison. The restaurant seats up to 90 diners and food is prepared, cooked and served by the prisoners who have applied to work and train towards obtaining their City and Guilds qualifications in food preparation and food service.

The gifts, including traditional Christmas puddings presented in a porcelain dish and neatly wrapped in muslin, and place use seasonal and locally sourced produce, much of which comes from The Clink greenhouses.

There is also a festive hamper containing a Christmas pudding, a glass bottle of Clink apple juice, a Clink mug, a jar of onion relish, a jar of cranberry sauce, a collection of prisoners’ poetry and a Clink pen, all presented in a wicker tray and gift wrapped.

The deluxe hamper contains an additional Clink apron and a jar of apple sauce.

Chris Moore, the chief executive of The Clink Charity said: "All the produce has been made by the prisoners; they've made over 500 Christmas puddings.

"They have spent four weeks making everything from scratch on-top of working in the restaurant every day."

The Christmas hamper costs £49.50 and the deluxe hamper costs £75 and both can be pre-ordered from the Clink Restaurant in High Down, Sutton.
