Schoolgirls from all over Sutton took part in a day of 4-a-side football on Thursday November 16.

It was all part of an initiative by the Surrey County FA to get more women and girls involved in playing the sport.

Girls in year three and four from Avenue Primary, Barrow Hedges, Culvers House and Westbourne School took part in the festival.

Sutton United sent player Steve McKimm down to watch the girls in action at Collingwood recreational ground.

At the end of the tournament Mr McKimm awarded the top performers with certificates.

Jon Burr, football development officer at Surrey County FA, said: “It was a fantastic day out for the girls and the combination of training workshops and small-sided games really helped the kids hone their skills.

“There was a great mix of players from all abilities and by the end of the session you could see a real improvement.

A big thanks to all the schools that took part and to Sutton United for letting us use their facilities.”
