Families are invited to shine a light for someone special they have loved and lost.

The South East Cancer Help Centre (SECHC), in partnership with the Purley Christmas Lights Association will be erecting a Tree of Light in Purley town centre.

The 20ft tree, provided by Woodcote Green Garden Centre, will provide an opportunity for those who have lost loved ones to celebrate their lives by sponsoring a light.

The lights will be turned on this evening after the Mayor of Croydon have switched on Purley's Christmas Lights at 5pm. The tree will remain illuminated throughout the Christmas and New Year period.

All light dedications will be put on the SECH website and a Book of Remembrance containing the names and dedications of those commemorated will be available at SECHC in the New Year as a permanent form of memorial.

Liz French, SECHC Fundraiser said: "Sponsoring a light on our tree is a very special way of remembering a loved one whilst at the same time raising vital funds for the SECHC to continue its work supporting local people affected by cancer.

"We are indebted to Pam Bryan, one of the Ministers at Purley Baptist Church and the Purley Christmas Lights Association for working so hard with us to get this project off the ground."
