Repair work and street clearing is set to take place in areas worst hit by the riots.

Croydon Council will invest £290,000 on public space around London Road and Reeves Corner before the end of the year.

This will include removing street signs and posts that are no longer needed, taking away metal railings and barriers, replacing old shops signs and working to repair damaged pavements.

Any money spent will be recuperated by the council from the Department of Communities and Local Government through the High Street Support Scheme fund.

It comes on top of the £150,000 Love Christmas, Love Croydon campaign launched by the council and delivered by the Croydon Business Improvement District (BID).

The campaign includes a number of festive events that are designed to help drawn in shoppers to the areas affected by the riots.

Croydon Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, Councillor Tim Pollard, said: “The work being carried out in London Road and at Reeves corner will help to make the areas more presentable, thereby helping businesses and residents while the real work to repair and replace damaged buildings is carried out.

“Hopefully, this will remind people of the enormous amount of work that has been and continues to be done by this council for the riot-affected areas.”
