It was double delight for a local children's charity at the weekend with a Christmas Fair plus a share of profits from the charity single performed on X Factor last night.

The Children’s Trust held its Christmas fair on Saturday at Tadworth Court in Tadworth, raising more than £12,500.

More than 1,000 people turning out to enjoy the event which included a skate rink, Santa’s grotto and elf hunting.

Carols were performed by the Higher Ground Youth Orchestra.

The following day millions watched the 16 X Factor contestants plus One Direction launch a charity single of the Rose Royce classic, Wishing on a Star.

All of the profits from the sale of each CD single and download will go toward charity Together For Short Lives which represents the estimated 23,500 children and young people across the UK who are unlikely to reach adulthood.

The Children’s Trust is one of the 50 member organisations who will receive a share of proceeds from the single, expected to be at least £1 for each CD and 20p for each download.

Emma Burgess, community fundraising co-ordinator at The Children’s Trust said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported the Christmas Fair to help make it such a success. “In particular, I would like to thank KBR and Toyota (GB) PLC who generously sponsored the event, the stall holders, Higher Ground Youth Choir, the mascots and our wonderful band of volunteers.”
