The body of a 35-year-old man was found hanging from a tree on the Balham/Streatham border last week in an apparent suicide.
On November 22, reports of a police cordon and a white tent, usually used to house a body, flooded into the newsroom along with tweets, email and calls from concerned residents and commuters.
Initial fears were of a murder or a serious criminal incident but police are treating the discovery as "non-suspicious".
A police spokesman confirmed the body of a man was found hanging from a tree in the wooded area next to Bedford Hill, in Balham, at around 7am on November 22.
The man has not been identified and an inquest is scheduled to be opened in the New Year.
