Thousands of children will be locked out of class on Wednesday as all of Elmbridge’s state schools close or partially close due to industrial action.
Surrey County Council said 243 of the county’s 375 state schools had notified it about closures of some sort.
It comes as public sector unions up and down the country are set for a one-day strike as part of a national dispute over pensions.
Other county council services, such as community recycling centres, libraries, adult social care and children’s social care, are expected to be largely unaffected as is Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.
Nadine Houghton, GMB regional officer said: “It is now clear millions of workers will be protesting on November 30 at the Government’s attack on jobs and pensions.
“The Government has already accepted that the original proposals were unfair and wrong. It is not too late for the government to pull back from this confrontation and scrap this attack on pensions.”
More than two million public sector workers are expected to walk out on Wednesday, November 30, to defend their pension funds.
The strike, co-ordinated by the TUC, will include the National Union for Teachers, NASWUT, Unison and the GMB, and is expected to disrupt schools, courts, government offices, job centres, driving tests, council services and hospitals.
A spokesman for Surrey County Council said: “This is a national dispute between unions and the Government. It is not a dispute between staff and Surrey County Council.”
Surrey Police pledged to do everything possible to maintain public confidence during the walk-out.
Plans are in place to ensure that critical policing services such as 999 and response to serious crimes were maintained throughout the county.
However, the force is facing difficulty because police staff could be involved in the industrial action on November 30, while public services participating in the strike may place extra demand on the force.
To help the force manage demand and prioritise services, the public has been asked to only call 999 in an emergency, where life is endangered or a serious offence is in progress.
Other matters can be reported online, or via the 101 non-emergency number.
Police counter services will also be open in Guildford, Woking, Staines and Reigate.
