The hastag #crystalpalace was trending across the UK as people watch the drama unfold at the Theatre of Dreams.

Former Palace frontman and Arsenal striker Ian Wright, who scored twice when Palace played Manchester United in the 1990 FA Cup Final, tweeted: “What an absolutely unbelievable result for palace, no goals in over 400 and minutes, then beat utd at OT, amazing. Dougie's a god.”

Mark Bright, who also played in the 1990 cup final, tweeted: “Tell me is it true, did the Palace really beat Man Utd tonight?

Funnyman Eddie Izzard, whose father is a season ticket holder at Selhurst Park, tweeted: “Holy Moly. Well done Palace. Man Utd 1 – 2 Palace.

Comedian and Match of the Day 2 regular Kevin Day tweeted: “You need fingers to tweet and you need fingers to hug strangers. I'm off to hug strangers.”
