Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals have been named one of the safest trusts in the country, according to a new report.
The hospitals have been named in the Dr Foster Hospital Guide as having some of the lowest mortality rates in England and Wales.
The trust has also been listed as one of 21 hospitals out of 147 where the number of patients who have died has been lower than expected.
Chief executive Matthew Hopkins said: “Being in the list of top hospitals - and alongside well known trusts like Guy’s and St Thomas’ - is something we are very proud of and it gives a clear message to our patients and local people that the care we provide is as safe as you would get in larger, more famous, hospitals.” “Whilst we are proud to be listed as some of the safest hospitals in England and Wales, we are not complacent, and must continue to work hard to maintain - and further improve - our low mortality rates.”
The news comes just weeks after the hospital announced a 14 per cent rise in instances of assault and abuse towards staff.
