Excitement is building across the borough as Sutton United prepare for this afternoon's FA Cup tie against Notts County.

Tickets sales boomed yesterday as fans bought tickets from a special stall set up on Sutton high street, not wanting to miss out on the club's big game.

All eyes will be on Gander Green Lane this afternoon, with the stands likely to be packed to the rafters with supporters hoping to witness another football upset, following Crystal Palace's win over Manchester United.

There are 69 places between the two sides in the league pyramid, but The Us will no doubt be hoping to emulate one of the FA Cups greatest acts of giant-killing.

In 1989, Sutton stunned Coventry, beating the top-flight team 2-1, and Sutton striker Leroy Griffiths has told The FA the team are eager repeat that success today.

He said: "Now is the best time for us in The Cup. It's up to us to make history, the town is absolutely buzzing."

"We've got a great tradition in The Cup as everyone knows, but now is our time. I think we've got a great chance-football's a funny old game."

The round two match kicks off at 5pm and is being shown on sports channel ESPN, but Griffiths insists the team won't be distracted by the TV cameras.

"The cameras wont be a distraction for us. We know what we have to do. It's wonderful to be in The Cup, but we've got to keep our feet on the ground."
