A former Croydon councillor opened a cancer care centre to help support those battling the disease.
Brenda Kirby, who has lived in New Addington for 40 years, pledged to open the centre last year after being diagnosed with terminal brain and lung cancer.
The former mayor, who was forced to step down from politics last May because of her health, opened the Brenda Kirby Cancer Care charity base on November 29.
The charity, based at New Addington Baptist Church, was launched shortly after Mrs Kirby was diagnosed with the disease.
Every Thursday, the centre will be open to those affected by the disease and their families, and will offer guidance and support.
