A 30-year-old woman was rescued from a fire in a Battersea block of flats this morning.

Five fire engines and 25 firefighters were called to the blaze, on the ninth and tenth floors of Youngs Court, Charlotte Despard Avenue, at 9.34am.

It was under control by 10.36am but the flat was damaged, firefighters said.

The woman was suffering from smoke inhalation and treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service just after 10am.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the flat.

"A small part of a flat on the ninth and tenth floors of a high rise building was damaged by fire."

Firefighters from Battersea, Clapham, Chelsea, Lambeth and Soho fire stations were also needed at the scene.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
