A Cheam High School student is to become Sutton’s new Member of Youth Parliament (MYP).
A record 8,700 votes were cast as young people flocked to vote for one of 24 candidates, thought to be one of the highest numbers in London.
Anna Clark, 18, topped the polls with 1097 votes and Anna Mullaney, 16, from Nonsuch School won second place and will take on the role of deputy.
The two Anna’s will represent everyone aged 11 to 18 who lives in Sutton. They will make sure that young people get their voices heard by leading campaigns and working with councillors and MP’s.
Anna Clark said: “I have a passion for politics and becoming Sutton’s MYP will give me the opportunity to make a change, learn new things and involve others.
“Having a part in making our community work is extremely unique and valuable, and I look forward to taking on the role and sharing my views and ideas.”
