A mother is running the London Marathon for her husband and daughter who have a kidney disease.
Mum of two Victoria Hart, from Wallington, is preparing for this year’s London Marathon in aid of Kidney Research UK.
The cause is particularly close to her heart because almost all her husband’s family are affected by a common genetic condition called Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).
The disease causes fluid-filled sacks to develop on the interior and exterior of the kidney.
Mrs Hart has been married to her husband Jonathan for 12 years and they have two daughters, Amy, 8, and Sophia, 2.
At present PKD affects most of Mr Hart’s direct family and daughter Amy.
Sophia is yet to be screened and the family pray, as Mrs Hart said: “that she hasn’t inherited the disease, but the odds are not looking too favourable.”
She added: “To be able to compete and raise money for a cause so personal to me and my family is fantastic because I believe I am doing something to help them and some of the 50,000 people diagnosed with kidney failure every year.”
