Former British boxing champion Gary Mason’s headstone was unveiled on Saturday.
Mason, who lived on the Roundshaw estate in Wallington, was knocked off his bike and killed in Sandy Lane South by van driver Piero Zanelli on January 6 last year.
He was buried at Croydon cemetery on February 11 last year, after a funeral at All Saints Church, Carshalton, where his family were joined by hundreds of mourners, including former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis.
His headstone was unveiled at a second ceremony on Saturday, attended by Mr Mason’s friends and family.
Drummers from the Gary Mason Charity – set up in the 48-year-old’s memory to continue the work of his social enterprise Rhythmical Empowerment Group – performed at a reception held on the same day.
Members of the Mason family from the US had sent certificates for people who had helped them and the charity in the year since Mr Mason was killed.
