Andrew Triggs-Hodge has called the new look British coxless four team electric after it was announced on Wednesday, writes Andy Bloss.

The Molesey Boat Club captain has been moved back to the four from the pairs ahead of the first World Cup regatta in May.

He is joined in the GB squad by fellow Molesey members James Foad, Mo Sbihi, Greg Searle, George Nash and Cameron Nichol – with Tom James’ fate still up in the air.

London Rowing Club quartet Bill Lucas, Sophie Hosking, Imogen Walsh and Rob Williams were also selected.

The squad is a strong indication of what GB’s line-up will be at the Olympics this summer and means Triggs-Hodge is likely to get the chance to defend his 2008 Olympic coxless fours gold.

He will line up alongside Alex Gregory, Peter Reed and either Alex Partridge or James.

“I just think about how fast this boat can go with no training together,” said Triggs-Hodge.

“During seat racing, it went astonishingly fast.

“Part of me thinks we can get together on the day and we will be a formidable force. Give us a couple of weeks, we can be electric.

“If we can have a clean run from here, I’ll be damned if anyone is going to beat us. It’s a very exciting project.”

Searle’s remarkable return to the sport after retiring two years ago continues as he goes in search of a second Olympic gold having won the men’s coxed pair event in 1992.

He is in the eight alongside Foad, Sbihi, and either Partridge or James.

Nash is in one of the men’s pair boats and Nichol in the other, while Hosking and Walsh are in the double scull.

Lucas is in the men’s double scull and Williams in the lightweight men’s four.
