Libraries across the borough will play host to events which celebrate the life and work of a Victorian novelist this month.
Lambeth Council’s library service is inviting people to find out more about Charles Dickens in 2012, the 200th anniversary of his birth, as part of a London wide reading festival.
Highlights include a hip hop inspired Dickens workshop, talks about Dickens’ time in Lambeth, and a session for children to see the realities of learning in a Victorian classroom.
Tim O’ Dell, the council’s reader development officer, said: “It’s impossible to underestimate the legacy of Charles Dickens and the impact his writing had on Victorian society. All the events are free and there really is something for everyone so we’d urge people to pick up a programme in your local library today or download it from the website.”
